Many college students spend their summer vacation relaxing or working a summer job.

But one group of young adults is taking advantage of the three month hiatus by registering voters.

The group of about 16 started on June 1 and plan to be in New Orleans on August 22.

They're canoeing down the Mississippi River to get young people educated and empowered on politics.

The nonpartisan group gives out cards to young adults on every stop, and asks them to help 10 of their friends register to vote.

"This election, it's important because we're such a crucial swing-voter population. In general, for a healthy democracy, every constituency needs to be well-represented so our country makes the right choices," said Kerri Kuhn.

The group paddled into Hannibal on Saturday afternoon, and on this leg of the trip, Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack's son joined along.
